How to read the table

The lunar day is not the calendar date: in the Tibetan calendar some days are doubled and some are skipped, which is why a month can start on the 18th lunar day and hold two “8th days”. The element and animal follow the 60-day cycle and colour what the day is good for — Wood days favour study and beginnings, Water days travel and healing, Earth days contracts and property, Fire days medicine, Metal days decisive completion. The haircut column follows the lunar-day tradition: the 8th day for longevity, the 10th for joy, the 15th for luck, while the 1st and 12th are avoided.
